A Stye is an infection on the corners or around the eyelids. The glands that secret oil swellsstye eye infection up and become painful. It is caused by bacteria called Staphylococcus. It can spread from one person to the other. In the beginning there will be a red swollen area near the eyelash on upper or lower eyelid. It is soft to touch. Slowly it is filled with pus. It becomes painful and the eye may water and look bloodshot. Sometimes it may block the vision.

Once the swelling breaks and the pus comes out the pain is over and the stye eye infection goes away. They are irritating and painful. One always feels like squeezing it to remove them. But one should not do that as it only worsens the condition.

The best way is to use warm compresses several times during the day. Clean cloth should be dipped in warm water and given compresses several times a day. One should observe cleanliness. Washing hands before compress is very important because if it is not washed then the bacteria can spread and cause more styes.

One should not rub the infected eye and touch the other eye with same hands. This also helps to spread infection. It is there for three to four days. But if it still continues then one should consult a doctor.
