Stye swelling is a swelling in the eyes because of bacteria. It refers to a small painful boil on the edge or corner of the eye. It can be inside or outside the eye.

This infection is caused by Staphylococcus. This bacterium spreads by rubbing which leads to the spread of styes. One should observe cleanliness because this is the only way we can prevent its growth.

It has swelling, redness, pain, heat and warmth. It is spread from one hair shaft to another because of rubbing of the eye. It has an itchy feeling. One feels like rubbing it but one should not rub it because it will only lead to spread of stye.

So once swelling appears one should be extra careful about it. One should not touch the eyes without washing hands. Warm compresses give ease during swelling. Even while giving warm compresses during stye swelling clean soft cloth should be used.

To begin with the infected area becomes red and it has warmth. It is warm to touch. There is water in the eyes. One feels like touching eyes again and again. Slowly it swells up and one feels like squeezing it. But it should not be done because it can be very harmful. At times the swelling might affect the vision. Because of the swelling one would not be able to see a clear picture. Blurred image of the object could be seen by the individual.

The swelling is filled up with pus and slowly it has a point. It is painful. When warm compresses are applied then the point softens and bursts. The pus moves out and the swelling is over. Apart from the warm compresses there are other medicines like ointments and eye drops which give relief from swelling and pain and helps in curing and preventing the styes.

Stye Swelling is painful so it should be treated with proper care and cleanliness.
