Treatment for Swollen Eyelid

Swollen eyelid is a usual symptom of Sty. The word sty refers to the infection of the eyes. It is caused by Staphylococcus. Sty generally appears in and around the eyelid. The affected area is swollen. It is red and painful. It is soft to touch. It has watery feeling.

This can blur the vision. It has an itchy feeling and one rubs the eyes to get rid of it and this causes it to spread. It stays for 3 to 4 days. Sometimes it disappears without forming into a boil. But sometimes it grows into a boil which bursts and the pus is discharged.

There are some treatments which if applied gives comfort from swollen eyelid. Warm compress is the best way to heal the sty. It should be used several times a day. It not only helps the sty in draining but also gives relieve from swollen eyelid. One tablespoon of coriander seeds should be boiled in water. After boiling, the water should be drained and allowed to cool later this water can be used as an eye wash. Eyes should be washed from this water at least 3 to 5 times a day. This helps in reducing the swelling.

Guava leaves warmed and placed on a damp cloth can be used as a compress. They help in reducing pain redness as well as swelling. A paste of potato spread on a cloth and applied on the affected area helps in reducing swelling. Apple can be boiled mashed and wrapped in warm damp cloth and applied on the eyes gently helps to reduce swelling. Wet tea bags can also be used in getting relief.

They can be placed on eyes for 8 to 10 minutes several times in a day. The aloe leaf slit lengthwise and the pulpy side applied on the affected area helps in reducing swelling and redness.

Swollen eyelids cause lot of discomfort but if these tips are applied one can surely get relief from swollen eyelid.
